Default Disatvantage of combining your GW & GWF account

First, Guild Wars is a great game...

But with six-professions, and ability for a pvp character...only having four character slots is stressful enough...But now, I preorder Factions...and then I read about combining accounts...and I realize that I lose two possible and valuable character slots if I combine GW w/ GWF. All of us deticated GW players would think this is a very unfair situation, right? Even though we payed the full price for both "STAND ALONE GAMES", we'd get only 3/4 the possible action.

Shouldn't there be any bonus for those who bought GW AND GWF that doesn't require removal of two possible character slots?

I think if enough of us get posting about this, we may get the full value of our hard earned dollars.

Gaile had an equation for this
6 characters with 100% access to both chapters is 600% total
8 characters with 50% access(only one chapter) is 400% total

set them up as full stand alone games and get the full number of slots you feel you deserve

if you want Anet to combine the two games into one you pay 2 slots as a convenience fee so to speak.

also please add this next time to one of the existing i want more slots threads

a few people on every site have expressed this opinion so Anet/NCsoft has been made aware of it

I fail to see how gaining 2 extra character slots(and each set can't visit the other chapter) is more beneficial than having 6 total char and not having to start from scratch due to your chp1 account being unable to access new content. I like having all my stuff I have accumulated from chp1 to chp2, heck, isn't that the reason why people are saving up all their K's in storage so they'll have money for chp2?

Good points and all but what I'm saying is if we bought both of their games...is that not the convenience fee so we could have 8 slots for that?

Or, 8 characters with 100% access is 100% total.

You can rationalise the limitation any way you like. This is purely a commercial consideration (to sell more copies), which pr (Gaile) must sell to customers (us) as a good or necessary idea.
I have 4 pves which I enjoy playing and have invested alot of time in. I don't want to delete any, so there are 2 classes I have never been able to play, ever. I also cannot create a pvp character.

I find this dissappointing.

Same postion as me, i really need a pvp, but if only 6 slots, 1 pvp is 50% of the new space, so i could one of either the assn, or rit.

I think that we're not looking outside the box here. The general idea is not that prophecies comes with 4 characters and that they try to screw you with factions, but the idea is that if a player purchases a GW chapter that he gets 4 slots for the first one he buys, and 2 for every chapter he adds to it. If someone bought factions but doesnt have prophecies he'd have 4 slots just like we had when we bought it. If he would buy chapter 4 for example he would have the option to add 2 slots to his account. Basically the option not to link it, is for people who are starting out so they get 4 slots to make it fair. Everyone is too much cought up in thinking too much like comparing factions to prophecies and not looking at the picture on the long run.

Yeah it sucks. Buy 2 accounts of each and you'll have 12 slots like I'm doing.

8 pve slots and 4 pvp. 4 and 2 on each account.

And by the way, buying two accounts is also pointless if you don't have time to unlock everything in both. Having the account is one thing, being able to use it is another.

Hey, and while we're at it, why do we only get 2 new professions?

We should get 8 more!

(sarcasm FTW)

Hmmm, each game is only 50%? Boy, I guess we overpaid - that means both games combined for 100% content is $100 ($140 if you buy CE). That's a hefty sum for one game!!

Yes, but consider this:

5 characters * 100% = 500% total. (linked chapters)
7 characters * 100% = 700% total. (linked chapters)
8 characters * 100% = 800% total. (linked chapters)

As you can see, formulas might attempt to explain how many slots are the minimum to give people value for money, but it doesn't explain why they're giving us the particular value (600%) implied by 6 slots.

And here's the one that explains how pointless these calculations are.

4 characters * 100% (linked chapters) = 400% total.

This is the same as 8 characters * 50% (separate chapters). If it's the same, we should be considering it "just as good, but different". I don't think many people would look at it like that though. People would be screaming blue murder if they didn't get a single extra slot on linked games. Obviously, extra character slots add more to the game than just being a multiplier in a worthless calculation.

Conclusion: Gaile's numbers are meaningless.

this is not to be a flame but this is the way i think she meant it and as i myself see it

50% of what is available

chapter 1 is a full game

chapter 2 is a full game

play each full game (think Baldurs Gate 1/2) as a separate game and you have 50% of the total available but still 100% of that full game

with chapter 5 if bought as a separate game you would still be getting a full game but only 20% of the total game content available with 5 chapters.

i think that is how the figures are meant

While I am perfectly happy to vent my spleen on only getting two character slots after paying for another full-price game, this thread should really be closed. If only to shield us from sub-standard sarcasm...

As one of the Beta testers pointed out on the other threed.

The reason for 6 if merged was not 8 was due to advantage / disadvantage in pvp for people who have more time than other players to play the game and pointed out Anet designed guild wars for the casual gamer of 100 hours.

8 slots would benfit 300+ more hours players for pvp greatly and make it harder for the casual gammers, which the game is designed for.

Mmm... I should've posted my semi-intelligent previous post in the other topic I guess.

Oh, and that was rubbish when it was first posted. A colander holds more water.
